We were deeply saddened to hear that Steve Lacey from Delamere BC passed away on 12th May after suffering heart problems.

Steve had been at the heart of Delamere BC for more than 30 years and was serving as Chairman at the time. He was a larger-than-life character, both at his club and across the League and will be remembered for his warmth, quick wit and great sense of humour. He was a familiar face at our League Executive Committee meetings, where he always brought a calm, sensible perspective to discussions.  More recently, he played a key role in rewriting our League Rules, making them far clearer and easier for everyone to follow.

Steve will be much missed not only by his friends at Delamere but by many across our badminton community.  Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

The funeral will be at Vale Royal Crematorium on Wednesday 10 June at 1:30pm with a reception at Crewe Alexandra football club afterwards.

A reminder about the league celebration and presentation evening. Friday 5th June 7pm until midnight. It is being held at The Cornerhouse in Chester. This is just a 5 minute walk from Chester railway station and is a couple of minutes walk from free parking on Boughton (one of the roads in to Chester)

It is an opportunity to get together in a relaxed setting and have a good chat and who knows maybe a dance! Not only will there be a buffet but also some fun puzzles to challenge your team.

Please can you let Louise know how many tickets you want before 18th May as she has to confirm numbers (and pay!!) the venue by 20th so they can organise the food.

If your club is not attending it would be good if you could let her know.

At the last league AGM Louise announced her resignation from the role as league Chairperson.

She describes her role as ‘not too onerous’ and has prepared a Job Description but she wants to move towards organising the presentation evening and Parker/Capper tournament instead so we urgently need a volunteer chairperson.

In the past we have lost other officials (President, Vice Chairman, Presentation Night Organiser, Tournament Organisers and one Rep to the County) but there have been no volunteers to take on these roles.

However, the league is now in a CRITICAL position where, if no-one is willing to be Chairperson, we will have no option but to DISCONTINUE THE LEAGUE.
